Access

Both properties have been designed to suit wheelchair users but retain the charm and character of these wonderful rural buildings. Level access has been integrated seamlessly into the design.

La Petite Maison

When La Petite Maison was restored it was designed to suit wheelchair users.  There are no steps throughout the ground floor level of the house, patio, garden and parking area.  All doors are 83cms (32.5”) or larger which enable wheelchair users to access all areas of the house with the exception of the smaller bathroom and the upstairs bedroom.  There is sufficient clearance under each of the ground floor beds to allow the use of a hoist (a Porta 150 electric hoist is available for a small additional charge).

The larger bathroom has a large (90cm x 100cm) shower with a wheel-in shower chair and handgrips.  There is sufficient space to allow lateral transfer to the toilet which also has handgrips.  Both the bathroom washbasin and the kitchen sink have sufficient clearance to allow the approach of wheelchairs. Two types of shower chair (including a self-propelling chair) are available.

La Grande Maison

La Grande Maison has been designed to suit wheelchair users.  There are no steps throughout the ground floor level of the house or the terrace, garden and parking areas.  Most doors are 90cms (32.5”) or larger which enable wheelchair users to access all areas of the house with the exception of the first floor.  We are planning to install a lift to give full access to the first floor of the house – but this will not be installed for 2007. The house is extremely spacious with large rooms and big turning circles

The huge ground floor bathroom has a bath as well as a large wheel-in shower.  Two types of shower chair (including a self-propelling chair) are available. There is sufficient space to allow lateral transfer to the toilet (which has pull-down handrails on both sides) from either side.  The bathroom washbasin has sufficient clearance for wheelchair users. There is sufficient clearance under the beds to allow the use of a hoist (a Porta 150 electric hoist is available).

The ground floor kitchen is designed for ease of access and has freestanding kitchen furniture. The sink has clearance for wheelchair users.

Information

There is lots of information about local access (towns and villages, restaurants, toilets and other facilities) in the Vistors Books - accumulated at first hand by the hundreds of disabled people who have stayed at Gresignac.
